I knew I wanted to serve the country. I wanted to do something different than the rest of my peers and do something above and beyond what most people do. The Citadel was appealing to me with its structure and the regimen and the atmosphere that it had there, so I visited it and started to attend there.<br /> <hr /><h2>Empowering a Team</h2>Kutilek2Leadership :40<br /> <br /> Capt Matthew Kutilek:<br /> The Marine Corps puts me in this, in this position to lead Marines and if I did not lead Marines, I would [not be] doing my job. It gives me opportunity to lead and mentor young United States Marines. Most Marines have no idea what they´re capable of until they´re pushed beyond to what they think they´re able to achieve, and they can achieve much more than they ever thought they could. One man can´t do everything, but every man can do something. And as long as you empower the team and bring everybody together and give them a task for a common goal, you can accomplish great things.<br /> <br /> But a good Marine Officer is not gonna forget the fact that he is leading these Marines and he sets the tone, or the atmosphere, the conditions. If he´s weak minded, the Marines will be weak minded. If he´s very physically and mentally tough, his Marines are gonna be physically and mentally tough, `cause they´re looking to their leader for guidance and direction.<br /> <hr /><h2>Leading the Front Line</h2>Kutilek3MOS :57<br /> <br /> Capt Matthew Kutilek:<br /> I wanted to go into infantry from the, from the first time I met a Marine. The Marine Officer instructor at, at the Citadel when I was a student there was a Marine Officer and that´s all I ever knew was infantry. And that´s what I wanted to do. I think when Americans see a Marine, they automatically envision a Marine infantryman who is out there in the front lines carrying a, carrying a heavy load, going hand in hand with the enemy at the forward edge of the, of the battle area, the forward edge of wherever the combat may be. And that´s who they envision and that´s what I wanted to get involved with, you know, as far forward as possible against the enemy forces.<br /> <br /> Your job is to learn infantry skills and to employ your Marines in a training environment to learn the skills necessary to have an impact around the world in a combat situation. And so you´re training them, you´re mentoring them, honing their skills as a collective team effort to go out and accomplish the mission.<br /> <br /> All Marines are a part of a larger picture and if we start worrying about our own self, our own goal, our own achievements and worry about our own hardships, we´re gonna fail. <hr /><h2>Training and Mentoring Marines</h2>Kutilek3MOS :57<br /> <br /> Capt Matthew Kutilek:<br /> I wanted to go into infantry from the, from the first time I met a Marine.
