BGen David C. Garza
Infantry Officer

The first thing about joining the Marine Corps, whether you stay for 4 years or 30 years like I have, is this sense of pride. You have joined a special organization renowned throughout the world.

—BGen David C. Garza

Commissioned: 1978
Commissioning Program: Officer Candidate Course
Education: Texas A&M University, Naval War College

Brigadier General David Garza is not the first Marine in his family, but he is the first General. After serving a few years in the Air Force and attending college through the GI bill, he became eager to return to the military. Inspired by his older brother and the values of the Marine Corps, he pursued a commission as a Marine Officer.

In his 31-year career, BGen Garza has treated every assignment as an opportunity to learn a new skill and become a better Marine Officer. He began his career as an infantry officer, learning every aspect of tactical planning and maneuver warfare. His leadership style has developed through years of overcoming tough obstacles and learning from each one.

He achieved the rank of brigadier general by accepting every challenge the Marine Corps offered him, and his service continues to take him to new positions of leadership.
