If I can point them in the right direction, if I can give them lessons learned that I learned the hard way so they don’t have to learn that way, that’s my job as the company executive officer.—1stLt Michael Baliko
Commissioned: 2006
Commissioning Program: NROTC
Education: U.S. Naval Academy
At age 12, First Lieutenant Michael Baliko knew he wanted to be a Marine. Motivated by a love of freedom and desire to give back, he set himself the goal of becoming a Marine Officer. To prepare for success, he attended a military prep school and then the U.S. Naval Academy.
He succeeded in earning his commission in 2006, and today the pride of leading Marines is a constant reminder of why he joined. Their bravery and commitment continually inspire him.
As a Combat Engineer, Lt Baliko’s task is to manipulate the battlefield to allow missions to advance. Some days that involves building new structures, other days it means using demolition gear to open up roadways. He oversees the equipment and leads an entire convoy of logistical and tactical vehicles, and makes taking care of his Marines a top priority.
