Col Matthew Bogdanos (2003)

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Colonel Bogdanos took leave from his role as an attorney to return to active duty in order to lead the investigation into massive looting of the National Museum of Iraq.

Col Bogdanos and his team recovered approximately 5,500 artifacts from humanity’s earliest civilizations, and exposed the link between the black-market art world and terrorist funding.

For his leadership role, Bogdanos received a National Humanities Medal. After completing the mission, he returned to his law office in Manhattan.
